The Royal News Organisation has spoken to Luxembourg’s Prince Noah of Nassau for his 18th birthday. In his first interview, Prince Noah reflects on his future, family and charity work and reveals the biggest misconception people have about him.
The Royal News Organisation (RNO): Happy Birthday! How are you planning on celebrating your 18th birthday?
Prince Noah (HRH): Thanks! Honestly, I did keep it pretty intimate. I had dinner with family and close friends. We had an escape room experience and enjoyed lots of laughter.
RNO: Have you made any plans post-graduation? There’s a strong history of military service on both sides of your family. Do you see yourself going through that route or forging your own path?

HRH: I have so much respect for all the people in my family who served in the armed forces, including military and police forces – especially my mom, deploying to Kosovo at 18. That takes serious courage. I’m definitely considering it, but I also want to make sure whatever path I choose is genuinely mine. Maybe I’ll do a gap year first to figure things out. I think there are many ways to serve your country and community.
RNO: Since you are still in school, what is your favourite subject to study? What subject would you say you are best at?
HRH: I really love history and psychology- probably influenced by growing up around diplomacy and hearing my parents’ stories. I’m also surprisingly good at languages, which comes in handy in Luxembourg. Despite the daily school schedule, I like to be active with sports and activities.

RNO: You spent many years of your life as the younger brother. How does it feel to be a big brother now to young Theodor? What are your favourite things to do with him?
HRH: It’s amazing, honestly. Theodor brings out this protective side I didn’t know I had. We build these elaborate Lego cities together, and he always wants to add dragons to everything. He keeps me grounded – we have a strong brotherly bond.
RNO: Having two brothers and a step-sister, do you all get along for the most part?
HRH: Like any siblings, we have our moments, but yeah, we’re pretty tight. We’ve learned that family is what you make it, not just blood. We all bring different perspectives, and that actually makes us stronger. Plus, when you’re dealing with public attention, having people who knew you before you could tie your shoes keeps you humble.

RNO: Do you have a favourite place in Luxembourg? What do you want people to know about your home country?
HRH: I love the old city walls in Luxembourg City – there’s something peaceful about walking there. People think Luxembourg is just banks and EU buildings, but it’s actually this incredible mix of cultures. You can hear five languages in one café. It’s small enough that community matters, but connected enough to feel part of something bigger.
RNO: Charity work is very important to your parents. Are there any specific charities you hope to support?
HRH: Education access really speaks to me. My mom’s work with her charities showed me how education can literally change everything for someone. I’m also interested in mental health support for young people – I think my generation faces unique pressures, and we need to talk about that more openly. My father and his work in dyslexia research also inspire me greatly.

RNO: What are your interests and hobbies?
HRH: I’m into sports, especially weight lifting and skiing – just real moments. I play the drums and played violin as a kid. I love hiking and getting completely offline for a few hours.
RNO: What’s the most important thing your parents have taught you?
HRH: That your title doesn’t make you special – your actions do. My mom always says, ‘privilege is responsibility,’ and my dad taught me that listening is more important than talking. Also, that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them and make things right.
RNO: Not much is known about you in the press. What do you want people to know about you? What is the biggest misconception people have about you?
HRH: I think people assume I live in some bubble, but honestly, I take public transport. I’ve had internships, see my friends, and I stress about exams like everyone else. The biggest misconception is probably that everything is handed to me. Sure, I have opportunities, but I still have to work for what I want.
