Plans have been announced for King Frederik’s first birthday as the monarch of Denmark.

The King will turn 56 on Sunday, 26 May and appear on the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace at noon with his family.

The Royal Life Guard will perform the Changing of the Guard in Amalienborg Palace Square at 11:50 before His Majesty appears to mark his birthday.

With this announcement, Frederik is following the Danish royal tradition of appearing on the balcony before the people on his birthday.

The Danish Royal House also revealed the plans for Queen Margrethe’s 84th birthday on 16 April. The Queen will mark the day privately at Fredensborg Palace. The Royal Life Guards Music Corps will also perform a small concert in Indre Slotsgård to coincide with the Changing of the Guard at the palace.
