King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark have hosted the President of Egypt for a state banquet.

The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, is on a two-day state visit to Denmark, and the state banquet was held at the close of the first day. The banquet was held at Christiansborg Palace.

The King and Queen’s sister-in-law, Princess Marie, was also present, as was Princess Benedikte.

During his speech, King Frederik said, “It is a great pleasure, together with Queen Mary, to welcome you to Denmark. Tonight, we celebrate not only the first state visit from Egypt to Denmark but also your first state visit to Scandinavia. The ties between our countries go back a long way, and my own family has brought back fond and lasting memories from your beautiful country for several generations. Not least my father, Prince Henrik, who had a great love for Egypt, which was also his last destination.”

He ended with, “Mr. President, you have come to Denmark, and it is cold here. Queen Mary and I are very pleased that you have made the trip here. Tonight we write another chapter in our shared history. A history that goes back far, with more than 100 years of diplomatic relations, and a history that points forward to the visions we share for the future.”
