Prince Harry has spoken about the future of the Invictus Games.
The Duke of Sussex, who is in Canada with the 2025 Invictus Games, spoke to the Daily Show on the sporting event for injured or sick armed forces personnel.
The Prince said: “As it stands now, there will always be a need for these games.”
He added: “It was naive to assume – or hope – that the Games would not be needed for perhaps three years to help everyone recover from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
There are a total of 23 countries that compete in the Invictus Games, and Harry remarked: “If only 5 per cent of those participating countries are involved in some form of conflict, you will continue to need the Games.”
Prince Harry created the Invictus Games in 2014 after being inspired by the Wounded Warrior Games in the United States. The inaugural event took place in London in 2014. It has since been held in Orlando, Florida, United States, in 2016; Toronto, Canada, in 2017; Sydney, Australia, in 2018; The Hague, Netherlands, in 2020; and Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2023.
The next Invictus Games will be held in 2027 in Birmingham, England.
