Crown Prince Christian of Denmark will step in for his grandmother, Queen Margrethe, at the opening of Queen Margrethe II’s Bridge.

The Crown Prince will participate in the celebration of the bridge on Saturday, 6 June, at a public festival.

The Queen was scheduled to mark the name change by being the final person to drive across the bridge under its original name. That duty is now expected to be carried out by her grandson.

The bridge is approximately four kilometres long and 102 metres tall; it is Denmark’s third-largest bridge. It was originally opened on 26 September 1937 by Queen Margrethe’s grandfather, Christian X, under the name Storstrøm Bridge.

Queen Margrethe was recently discharged from the National Hospital in Copenhagen following a heart procedure and a subsequent procedure to remove a blood clot in her hip.

The Queen is resting at Fredensborg Palace, and her engagements will be evaluated on an ongoing basis. Her Majesty’s health is the priority.
