The Swedish royal court has announced that King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will host an incoming state visit in honour of the President and First Lady of Singapore.
The Kingdom of Sweden is to roll out the diplomatic red carpet next month. The royal court announced this morning that the President of the Republic of Singapore is due to travel to Sweden on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be accompanied by First Lady Jane Ittogi as they will pay a state visit to Sweden from Monday 19 October to Wednesday 21 October. The visit comes at the invitation of King Carl XVI Gustaf, who most recently visited Singapore on a state visit in 2024.
The visit celebrates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Singapore. President Shanmugaratnam will also be accompanied by representatives of the Singaporean Government and business sector.
The purpose of the state visit is to consolidate the warm relations between the two countries, strengthen and further develop existing cooperation, and create new opportunities for trade and investment in research-based innovation, emerging technologies, critical infrastructure, and the digital and green transition.
The royal court notes that Singapore ranks among the world’s most open and business-friendly economies. It is also an important and dynamic economy, in which Sweden has key foreign and security policy interests. Sweden and Singapore have excellent political relations, based on a shared commitment to a rules-based international order and free trade. More than 300 Swedish companies are present in Singapore, and trade is extensive.
