King Abdullah II of Jordan and his wife Queen Rania met with Pope Francis on Thursday.
The pope had only just returned from his visit to Bahrain. The two discussed the need to maintain interfaith dialogue. About 114,000 Catholics live in Jordan, which is about 1.9% of the population.
King Abdullah also spoke with the foreign minister. Queen Rania was, according to protocol, dressed in black.
Pope Francis visited Jordan in 2014 and held a mass for 1,400 people there.
