Marius Borg Høiby has been released from police custody, but what do we know about the accusations and case against the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit?

In August, Marius Borg Høiby was arrested for assault, battery, threats and property damage. The victim was his ex-girlfriend. Høiby, 27, later admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. He said he had been battling mental health issues.

He also told the media: “I have struggled with substance abuse for a long time, something I have been in treatment for in the past. I will now resume this treatment and take it very seriously.”

Pictures and audio of Marius were later revealed online, including one image that showed him holding a pistol in an undated photo. There have also been other accusations of previous domestic violence.

Høiby was arrested for a second time in September. Initial reports suggested that the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon was arrested for violating a restraining order; however, Høiby’s attorney has denied the claim.

Supposedly, Høiby contacted one of the victims from a hidden phone number.

After the second arrest, Oslo police added the charge of violation of a restraining order and reckless conduct against Høiby.

He has also been accused of issuing a death threat against a man in what has been said to be a separate incident.

A third arrest came in November – this time for suspicion of rape. His last arrest was on 18 November on suspicion of violating the criminal code, “which concerns sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act.”

The police revealed that he was in the car with the alleged victim from the incident in August when he was arrested. Høiby remained in jail until 27 November. He was released after the police determined it was no longer expected that he would attempt to destroy evidence.

Høiby is not allowed to contact the two women is accused of raping and the police have said yet another charge has been added against him.

Høiby’s attorney, Øyvind Bratlien, told NBC News about the charges against his client: “Høiby only pleads guilty to a case of one incident of bodily harm against his last girlfriend, criminal damage in her apartment and a threat. For the other circumstances, he does not admit criminal guilt.”

In total, the known charges against him are domestic violence, violation of a restraining order, issuing a death threat, driving without a license and rape. Høiby has not yet gone to trial or been convicted of any crime.
