Six European monarchs deliver Christmas speeches each year on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Three other monarchs address their people on New Year’s Eve.

So, when can you watch each of the royal Christmas speeches?

Belgium: Airing on television and social media, King Philippe pre-records three versions of his speech – one in each of the prominent languages in Belgium (Dutch, German and French). He speaks to Belgians on Christmas Eve at 1 pm.

Denmark: King Frederik will address his people on New Year’s Eve for the first time as monarch. His speech is aired live on Danish television at 6 pm.

Luxembourg: Grand Duke Henri addresses his people on Christmas Eve from the Grand Ducal Palace at 7 pm. The speech is aired on news channels and is posted to the Grand Ducal Family’s official website. As the Grand Duke named Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume as Regent, it is currently unknown if he will step in for his father during this year’s speech.

Monaco: Prince Albert of Monaco speaks to the people of Monaco in the evening on New Year’s Eve. Princess Charlene and their twins, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, usually join him at the end to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

The Netherlands: King Willem-Alexander pre-records his speech to air to the Dutch people at 1 pm local time on Christmas Day. It will be available on television and social media.

Norway: King Harald also addresses Norwegians on New Year’s Eve in a pre-recorded speech at 7:30 pm.

Spain: King Felipe addresses the Spanish people on Christmas Eve. His speech is aired at 9 pm local time and features a video of special moments from throughout the year. It can be watched live on social media and Spanish news channels.

Sweden: King Carl Gustaf’s speech is the last on Christmas Day. He pre-records his speech from the palace and it airs around 8:45 pm in Sweden on SVT. It will also be available on YouTube and the Royal Family’s website.

United Kingdom: King Charles’s pre-recorded speech will air on television at 3 pm on Christmas Day. It will also be aired across the Commonwealth with each country choosing which time to air the speech.
