Princess Madeleine makes Vogue Scandinavia debut

Princess Madeleine of Sweden has made her Vogue Scandinavia debut as autumn is just around the corner.

Interviewed by Allyson Shiffman for the fifth annivesary issue, the Princess opened up about her more private life. She does not regularly undertake royal engagements on behalf of the Crown or receive a royal appanage from the government.

The normally shy Princess discussed her love of nature, animals and how she felt watching her oldest child take part in equestrian competitions.

Photographed in various beautiful outfits on Sweden’s Djurgården and the Royal Stables, Madeleine also showed her more relaxed side. As she and Shiffman were strolling through the park, the Princess’s dog (goldendoodle Teddy) took off running to do his business. Madeleine was said to apologise and clean up after her beloved pup – no handlers or security to do it for her. That would not come as a surprise to most who follow her. She lived privately in the United States and London for years before returning home to Sweden with her family two years ago.

The Princess confessed that she stays close to nature by taking walks with Teddy and credited the walks with keeping her grounded. She grew up with animals always around and admitted that she’s “always felt very connected to animals.”

The royal thinks it is important for children to have some sort of pet to help them learn how to be responsible and to take care of something. “It teaches them good values,” she states.

Princess Madeleine has a lifelong love of horses (inherited from her father, King Carl Gustaf) and has passed that trait on to her children. Her eldest child, Princess Leonore, is following in her mother’s footsteps in showjumping, and the mother of three said watching her is “nerve-wracking.”

She admitted, “I’m so much more nervous standing on the ground watching. It was easier sitting in the saddle.”
