Prince Nicolas of Sweden turns ten today.
Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf was born to Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill on 15 June 2015 in Stockholm, just two days after his uncle, Prince Carl Philip’s wedding.
The Prince’s name and duchy were announced by his grandfather, King Carl Gustaf, at a cabinet meeting. He was granted the dukedom of Ångermanland and was sixth in the line of succession at his birth.
Nicolas was christened on 11 October 2015 in the Royal Chapel of Drottningholm Palace. His maternal uncle, Prince Carl Philip; paternal aunt, Natascha Abensberg und Traun; paternal uncle, Henry d’Abo; maternal cousin, Gustaf Magnuson; and friends of his parents, Katarina von Horn and Marco Wajselfisz, were named as godparents.

While Nicolas does not hold the style of Royal Highness, that has not always been the case. Up until 2019, he held the style; however, his grandfather revoked the style of Royal Highness and position in the Royal House from him, his siblings and his cousins by Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. This was done to streamline the monarchy and allow the children to have more freedom to choose their own paths in the future. Because of this, they will not be expected to represent the Crown at official events or receive an appanage upon turning 18.
A few months after his birth, his family relocated to London due to his father’s job. By 2018, the family moved to Miami, Florida, where they lived until 2024. He now resides in Stockholm at the Royal Mews.
Prince Nicolas attends school in Sweden and is currently 11th in the line of succession.
