The Norwegian Royal Court has begun plans for the sarcophagus of King Harald and Queen Sonja.
The government has proposed allocating NOK 20 million in project funds to create a sarcophagus for Their Majesties.
The sarcophagus will be the final resting place in the Royal Burial Chapel at Akershus Fortress in Oslo.
The King and Queen are involved in the process with the Royal Court, which will make the sarcophagus in line with tradition.
Snøhetta has been chosen as the architetural firm and the creation of the sarcophagus is in the early planning stages.
All members of the Royal House are buried in the crypt, including the King’s parents, King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha.
