Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands and Laurentien Brinkhorst married on 19 May 2001.
Prince Constantijn is the younger brother of the current King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. He and Laurentien began dating in 1995, but their families had been friends for years. Their engagement was announced on 16 December 2000.
Laurentien wore a gown by the Belgian designer Edouard Vermeulen and the Laurel Wreath Tiara. The ceremony took place in the Grote of St. Jacobskerk in The Hague. Emeritus minister C.A. ter Linden performed the ceremony. The kneeling bench was also used during the wedding of Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Henry.
Laurentien is now called Princess Laurentien, as this is the custom in the Netherlands. Prince Constantijn asked for, and received, parliamentary permission for his marriage, which means that he remains in the line of succession behind his nieces. It was settled that any children they had would be titled Count/ess of Orange-Nassau. They now have three children: Eloise (born 2002), Claus-Casimir (born 2004) and Leonore (born 2006).
