The King’s Day celebrations in Doetinchem have been pushed back because of Pope Francis’s funeral.

King Willem-Alexander and his family will celebrate the King’s birthday in Doetinchem as planned on April 26. However, the celebrations will start an hour later to coincide with the end of the funeral. The celebrations were due to start at 11 A.M. but will now begin at noon.

The Dutch royal family will not be sending a representative to the funeral. The Dutch government will be represented by Prime Minister Schoof and Minister Veldkamp of Foreign Affairs.

The King and Queen paid tribute to the Pope a few days ago.
