The royal attended the inauguration on the eighth anniversary of the attack that killed five and seriously injured another 15. Others in attendance included victims’ families, the Prime Minister of Sweden and representatives from Stockholm.

Fredad plats was created by artists Ann-Sofi Sidén and Mats Fahlander. It depicts a bronze blanket draped over the concrete railing between Sergels torg and Brunkebergsterrassen. A plaque with the names of the victims is also displayed.

Rakhmat Akilov, a 39-year-old member of ISIS, hijacked a truck and ran over people on Drottninggatan (Queen’s Gate), a pedestrian street in Stockholm. He was arrested and convicted of terrorism and murder.
