King Felipe and Queen Letizia are to visit flood-ravaged areas of Spain this weekend.
Spain’s EFE reported that the King and Queen would travel to Valencia this weekend. They said that the trip would be done in a way that would not disrupt the work of emergency services, security, and charitable organisations.
King Felipe observed a minute of silence on 31 October at a rally in Madrid to show support to those affected. He also promised his support to them.
Specifically, the King called the flooding “catastrophic” and said that “as we have heard in the media is still not over.”
His Majesty said he was “devastated” by the floods.
“The Queen and I are with you,” he said.
“The main thing is to publicly express my distress and concern about the tragedy that can still continue to unfold in a very large part of the country. There has been an enormous destruction of infrastructure and belongings of many people. There are still difficulties in accessing many areas, which means that there is not complete information about the extent, the effects, and even the victims’ potential.”
Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in Spain that killed 158 people; 155 people were in the worst-hit area of Valencia. Many are still missing. Search and rescue operations are underway.
