Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has explained why the Royal Court has remained silent over the arrest of his stepson, Marius Borg Høiby.
The Crown Prince told the press that he understood they had “many questions” regarding the accusations of abuse toward Høiby and his subsequent arrest.
He also revealed why he and the Royal Court have remained silent. They do not want to comment while the investigation is ongoing.
Haakon admitted the family was in a difficult situation and said: “It is as the King said: we try to take care of each other as a family. And besides that, we want to do our work.”
Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, has been arrested twice on suspicion of domestic violence, abuse and violation of a restraining order.
The 27-year-old was arrested in August for domestic violence, and he later confessed to harming a woman while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
He vowed at the time that he was going to continue treatment for substance abuse. He said at the time: “I have several mental disorders which mean that throughout my upbringing and adult life, I have had, and still have, challenges. I have struggled with substance abuse for a long time, something I have been in treatment for in the past. I will now resume this treatment and take it very seriously.”
