Queen Mary of Denmark has opened Aalborg University Hospital’s new building in Hospital City.
The Queen received a tour of the new building and spoke to patients, families and staff. She also heard from a youth ambassador about the vision behind the hospital.
The Queen said at the opening, “It is a very historic day – and a day that many have been looking forward to. It gives me great pleasure to inaugurate the new Aalborg University Hospital.”

At the entrance, Queen Mary cut the red ribbon designed by children from the hospital’s creative workshop. Two clowns held the ribbon; Her Majesty is the patron of the Danish Hospital Clowns.
Regional Council Chairman, Mads Duedahl, spoke during the opening to say, “A beautiful and ambitious dream has finally become a reality. The dream of the state-of-the-art, future-proof hospital that the people of North Jutland so deserve. We have created a beacon for the healthcare system of the future. North Jutland’s most expensive building – and in many ways the people of North Jutland’s most important house ever. A setting for life’s most difficult moments – and the happiest ones. Because this is not just a house for our generation, it is also very much a gift to our children and grandchildren.”
The new building at Aalborg University Hospital has 180,000 square metres, making it the largest building in Northern Jutland. It is located near the University College of North Jutland.
