Queen Mathilde of the Belgians has been in Türkiye on an economic trade mission with the Belgian government.
Queen Mathilde will spend five days in Istanbul and Ankara, focusing on green initiatives, aerospace and defence industry, ports, logistics and transport, pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology, and digital technologies.
The Queen is leading the economic mission, taking over for Princess Astrid of Belgium, who stepped back from her economic duties due to health.
The Belgian representatives arrived in Türkiye on Sunday, 10 May, first visiting the Baykar Technology facilities. The following day saw the group visit several events and seminars focusing on strengthening the existing partnership between Belgium and Türkiye and creating new collaborations. Her Majesty also met the Turkish Minister for Trade, Ömer Bolat, and attended a signing ceremony for 27 agreements and contracts between the two countries.
The Queen hosted a reception where she stressed the importance of the friendship between the countries, saying that “our bilateral relations have never been stronger, and our shared ambitions have never been higher.”
She added that the alignment between Belgium and Türkiye is “creating a partnership that is not only economically profitable but strategically resilient.”
