Catherine, the Princess of Wales, visited Evelina London Children’s Hospital on Monday.

The Princess of Wales, as Royal Patron, visited the Evelina London Children’s Hospital today. The Princess’s visit provided an opportunity to learn more about Evelina’s vision of becoming London’s most comprehensive, integrated children’s hospital, bringing together specialist expertise, compassionate care and family-centred support to help children and their loved ones navigate challenging times.

Catherine has been Patron of Evelina since 2018.

Rooted in a belief that every child deserves the very best care, Evelina London is expanding their services to meet increasing demand, so even more children and young people can lead happier, healthier lives. Plans are underway for a new hospital building, expected to open in the early 2030s, which will provide additional scanners, beds, and theatres, as well as state-of-the-art technology. Evelina London Children’s Charity is fundraising more than £100 million towards the project.

During her time at Evelina, the Princess first visited the Edward Ward — a new children’s cardiac ward within the North Wing at St Thomas’ Hospital. Having recently brought together their world-leading children’s heart, lung and intensive care specialists onto a single site as part of a planned temporary move. Her Royal Highness also met children being treated on the ward, as well as their families, to learn about their experiences and how this new ward has been designed to welcome families from across London into a bright, child-friendly environment.

A special moment came for ten-year-old Ejran, a cardiac patient being treated at the hospital, when he met the Princess. The boy asked Catherine if she was the Queen, to which she responded, “I’m the Princess of Wales,” before asking Ejran about his time at the hospital.

The Princess then visited the Galaxy Ward, which is a brand-new outpatient unit within the Children’s Day Treatment Centre. Opened in May 2026, Galaxy hosts children for face-to-face heart clinic appointments including diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, assessments and ongoing care for children and young people with a cardiac condition.

To end the visit, Catherine met with members of the children’s cancer programme team who are working together to plan the move of highly specialised cancer and blood and marrow transplant services for children in south London and southeast England.

The future Children’s Cancer Principal Treatment Centre, located at Evelina London, will bring together expert staff from the current service at The Royal Marsden and St George’s Hospital with Evelina London’s specialist teams who already care for children with complex and rare medical conditions. This move will ensure that children with cancer will be able to access more of the specialist services they may need in one place, including intensive care and key cancer surgery.

The Princess listened to how teams from Evelina London, The Royal Marsden, St George’s and University College London Hospital have been working together to plan for a safe transfer.
