The future plans for Crown Prince Christian of Denmark have been announced.

The Crown Prince will go on an extended stay in East Africa where he will be involved in the daily operations of two farms.

Christian, 18, will be involved in practical and administrative tasks and learn about local nature protection.

His Royal Highness plans to return to Denmark in December.

Christian’s trip follows a Danish tradition for the heirs to the throne who have undertaken extended stays in foreign countries. King Frederik took part in an expedition to Mongolia in 1986 and worked in a vineyard in California. Queen Margrethe took long trips to East and South America in the 1960s.

King Frederik, Queen Mary and Crown Prince Christian have asked that Christian’s privacy be respected during this time, and the Royal House will release no further information.

Christian leaves for Africa on 4 September.

Before travelling to Africa, Christian will cheer on the Danish athletes at the Paralympics in Paris on 2 September.
