King Charles III has marked a reign of 1000 days.

Charles succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, immediately upon her death on 8 September 2022. At the age of 73, he was the oldest person to have succeeded to the British throne. The previous record was held by King William IV, who was 64 when he became King in 1830.

He had been the Prince of Wales for most of his life. The day after his accession, he created his eldest son William as Prince of Wales. The proclamation of King Charles’ accession took place on 10 September 2022.

In November 2022, King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted their first official state visit of his reign when the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, came to London.

The following March, the King and Queen had their first outgoing state visit. They travelled to Germany, where Charles became the first British monarch to address the Bundesstag.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were jointly crowned at Westminster Abbey on 6 May 2023.

In February 2024, it was announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. He started undergoing treatment and slowly returned to public duties when his treatment was going well.

In June 2024, King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to Normandy, where they attended the 80th anniversary commemorations of D-Day. They hosted another state visit that same month when the Emperor and Empress of Japan came to visit.

That October, they travelled quite a bit further and headed to Australia and Samoa, and Australia became the first Commonwealth realm Charles visited since his accession.

This year, a state visit to Vatican City was planned, but this was cancelled. Nevertheless, during the state visit to Italy, they made a surprise visit to the Vatican and they had a meeting with Pope Francis on their 20th wedding anniversary.

In May, they led the country in the VE-Day celebrations and they visited Canada, where he opened the Canadian parliament, which was the first time a Canadian monarch had done so in person since 1977.
