King Charles pays tribute to Dame Maggie Smith

King Charles paid tribute to Dame Maggie Smith after the actress died on 27 September.

The King released a statement calling the Harry Potter actress a national treasure.

He said: “My wife and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dame Maggie Smith. As the curtain comes down on a national treasure, we join all those around the world in remembering with the fondest admiration and affection her many great performances and her warmth and wit that shone through both on and off the stage.”

Maggie Smith died on 27 September in a London hospital at the age of 89.

She was well-known for her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter series and Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey.
