The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon, greeting fans in the queue and meeting with children from a London-based photography charity.

It was an eventful day in south-west London today as many tennis fans were surprised by the presence of the Princess of Wales. Catherine, as the Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), attended day four of the Championships at Wimbledon.

On arrival, Her Royal Highness visited ‘The Queue’, spending time meeting with attendees who had waited since early in the morning, alongside AELTC’s Honorary Stewards, who volunteer each year to manage the line of fans and welcome guests as they arrive at the Championships. The Princess stopped and took a few customary selfies.

Once inside, the Princess helped out in the ticket office, to the delight of many attendees.

During her time at the Championships, Catherine met with children from the Shine Camera Club. The club is a creative photography programme based within the charity SHINE Merton, which supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity and self-expression through photography. Shine Camera Club was founded in 2021 by photographer, creative practitioner and community activist Cindy Sasha, to ensure that children in Mitcham, many of whom face significant barriers to cultural participation, could access high-quality photography education free of charge.

In 2025, Shine Camera Club took part in a learning programme during the Championships, where students created a portrait series celebrating community trailblazers, which was later exhibited at the Wimbledon Qualifiers.

This year, the children spent the day taking photos of the matches, with the Princess joining them afterwards to learn about the charity and view the photos they’ve taken.

The Princess of Wales also watched a few matches from the Outer Courts, joining tennis royalty Sir Andy Murray in the stands.
