The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi was on hand for the announcement of a new Disney theme park in the United Arab Emirates.

Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed joined Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger as the latter announced Disney’s plans to open a theme park in Abu Dhabi.

The new attraction will be constructed and operated on Yas Island by Miral, an Abu Dhabi entertainment company. Disney will be in charge of the design, development and leadership.

Iger said, “We did study the region very carefully, and we know we had many opportunities. Obviously, building a theme park in a location is a huge endorsement of the location that speaks volumes in terms of the ability of that location to sustain the Disney theme park.”

He also pointed out the demand for a Disney park in the Middle East and said that the UAE was the perfect location: “Of all the places that we could choose from, there did not seem to be any place that is better than this.”

A date for the opening of the theme park has not yet been revealed.
