The Luxembourg government has revealed the first details for Grand Duke Henri’s October abdication.

The official abdication will take place on 3 October when Grand Duke Henri signs the Act of Abdication at the Grand Ducal Palace with members of the Luxembourg government in attendance.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume will then be sworn in as the new Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The new monarch will then greet the people on the balcony of the Grand Ducal Palace with his wife, Princess Stéphanie, who will become the Grand Duchess upon her husband’s swearing in.

The Grand Ducal Couple will also attend a reception hosted by the government at the Cercle Cité before an evening gala takes place in the evening at the palace.

On 4 October, the new Grand Duke and Grand Duchess will attend three parties in Wiltz, Dudelange and Luxembourg City to meet the people. A concert and drone show will take place in the capital in the evening.

The Grand Ducal Family will attend a Te Deum at the Notre-Dame Cathedral on 5 October.
