The visit of King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and the Princess of Orange to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom starts today.
This afternoon the group will arrive at Bonaire, where they will be greeted by Island Governor Edison Rijna.
Tomorrow morning the group will be received in Edison Rijna’s official residence, where members of the Island Council and deputies will also be present.
Then the ‘slave huts’ are visited at Witte Pan. These symbolize Bonaire’s slavery past. Subsequently, a tour along the west coast is made and Nos Zjilea in Cultural Park Mangazina di Rei is visited. Local residents talk about their neighborhoods there. Afterwards, an exhibition on the history of the island is viewed.
During lunch, discussions are held with residents of Bonaire about current themes. In the afternoon, the bay of Sorobon is visited, where a windsurfing demonstration takes place. Afterwards, talks will be held with junior rangers from Stichting Nationale Parken Bonaire about nature conservation of the coastal area. Then there is a boat trip across the bay.
The day ends in Kralendijk with a visit to ‘Taste of Bonaire.’
No activities are planned on Sunday.
