Queen Silvia of Sweden has been forced to leave the Paris Olympic Games for family reasons.

The Queen travelled to Belgium for what the Royal Court is calling “family reasons.”

Her Majesty travelled to her 95-year-old older brother, Ralf Sommerlath, who lives in Belgium, but the Royal Court gave no further details to Swedish media.

Margareta Thorgen told Svenskdam: “It is for family reasons and private, that is why the court is still open that the Queen has chosen to leave because of her family and has therefore travelled to her brother in Belgium.”

Thorgen also told Aftonbladet: “The king is still in Paris and looks at all our Swedes and wants to cheer them on.”

Queen Silvia was due to stay in Paris through 11 August. The King has remained in France and is expected at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday.
