Sweden celebrates 50 years of Queen Silvia, who married King Carl Gustaf in 1976.

On 19 June 1976, the King of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf, married Miss Silvia Renate Sommerlath at Stockholm Cathedral. The historic ceremony was attended by the European royalty and aristocracy. This year, in 2026, the Royal Couple will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary alongside 50 years of Her Majesty as Queen of Sweden.

Today, the Swedish Royal Court has released new photographs of Queen Silvia to mark the special occasion. The photographs were taken on 9 June at Drottningholm, the Royal Court has informed.

Queen Silvia recently opened the ‘Dräkter för en drottning – vardag och fest under 50 år’ (The Queen’s Royal Wardrobe – Everyday and Special Occasions Over 50 Years). The exhibition, in connection with the Queen’s exceptional milestone, is on display in the Dejeunér Salon, Drottningholm Palace Theatre until 26 July.
