Princess Madeleine is set to serve as acting head of state in Sweden beginning this week.

The third child of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia will begin acting as temporary head of state on Friday, 25 October.

Her older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, will step in as head of state beginning the following week.

The King and Queen will be in Brazil for the next two weeks on official business and in a private capacity. The King will focus on the World Scout Foundation, while the Queen will work with the Brazilian branch of her World Childhood Foundation.

Afterwards, the couple will take a private holiday in the Latin American country, where Queen Silvia (half Brazilian and half German) spent some of her childhood.

Princess Madeleine has only recently been able to step in for such important duties. This summer, she returned to live in Sweden with her family after spending many years in the United States.

Since moving to Sweden, she has been very active with the World Childhood Foundation and private royal duties.
