The Princess of Asturias is set to make her first foreign royal visit to neighbouring Portugal.

The 18-year-old heir to the Spanish throne will visit Portugal on 12 July at the invitation of Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

This will be Leonor’s first official foreign visit.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the trip and said that the President will receive Princess Leonor at Belém Palace (residence of the Portuguese president) in Lisbon.

They said this visit “reflects and reinforces the bonds of brotherhood and closeness that unite both countries.”

Leonor will be joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares.

The visit will primarily focus on environmental protection and ocean conservation.
