Grand Duke Henri has welcomed the Olympic Torch to Luxembourg.

The Grand Duke was joined by his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, and one of their sons, Prince Louis.

Luxembourgish former tennis player Anne Kremer ran with the torch to greet the Grand Duke, Grand Duchess and Prince in Schengen.

To celebrate the historic moment, the Grand Duke gave a speech outside the European Museum and paid tribute to the Olympic athlete.

The Olympic Sports Committee of Luxembourg contacted Kremer about taking part in the torch route in 2023. She said: “That was a moment I will probably never forget.”

This was the first time the Olympic Torch was in Luxembourg since 1948.

The Olympic Torch is currently on its way to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess are not the first royals to welcome the Olympic Torch to their country. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene recently welcomed it to Monaco outside the Princely Palace.
