Princess Beatrix was at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to help celebrate their 50th anniversary.

On behalf of Emilie Gordenker, the director of the Van Gogh Museum, and Janne Heling, president of the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, she received a sunflower. Exactly fifty years ago, her mother, Queen Juliana, also received a sunflower during the official opening of the museum.

The sunflower symbolises the continued involvement of the royal family with the museum. Princess Beatrix also went on a private tour of the anniversary exhibition: Van Gogh in Auvers – His last months.

Earlier in the day, museum employees had been handing out sunflowers to visitors to the museum square, turning it into a sea of flowers. The anniversary exhibition can be visited until 3 September.
