Norwegian royal court shares photos of Princess Astrid

The Norwegian royal court has shared photos of Princess Astrid of Norway by the coffin of her brother, King Harald.

Princess Astrid is King Harald’s only surviving sibling. Their other sister, Princess Ragnhild, died in 2012.

King Harald died last week at the age of 89. At the time, the royal court announced, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of His Majesty King Harald today. King Harald passed away peacefully at the National Hospital on Friday, August 28, at 6:35 a.m.”

His coffin is currently in the Palace Chapel, where it will remain until the day of the funeral. The coffin was draped with the royal flag, and it was carried by the late King’s children and grandchildren, including Marius Bord Høiby.

A private memorial service was held in the chapel for King Harald’s family, his court and adjutant staff.

The chapel will be open for the public to pay their respects until 6:00 PM on the day before the funeral.

Court mourning will last until 9 October, which is exactly one month from the date of the funeral.

According to the official statement, “The Royal House of Norway will cancel all official programs, with the exception of constitutional duties such as cabinet meetings, the official opening of the Storting and selected audiences. During the Royal House of Norway’s mourning period, the Royal Family and the Royal Court’s staff will wear dark clothing or uniforms with mourning bands. Public activities at the royal properties will be closed during the period.”
