King Harald V of Norway, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were present during the solemn ceremony during which the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Narges Mohammadi, who is currently imprisoned. Her two children, Kiana and Ali Rahmani, received the prize on her behalf. Her husband, Taghi Rahmani, was also present.
The head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, said, “The Nobel Peace Prize 2023 goes to Narges Mohammadi for her courageous fight for freedom and human rights over three decades and for showing leadership when a new wave of protests swept over Iran. This year’s peace prize is a recognition of all brave women in Iran and around the world who are fighting for basic human rights – and to put an end to discrimination and segregation of women.”
Her children each read out part of a letter Narges Mohammadi had written for the ceremony.
Before the ceremony, Kiana and Ali Rahmani were received in audience at the Royal Palace.
