Queen of Brunei’s sister, Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Zariah binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, dies

The Queen of Brunei’s sister, Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Zariah binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, died on 6 October at 5.43 p.m.

The two were also sisters-in-law, as Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Zariah binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam was married to Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the younger brother of the Sultan of Brunei. He commanded that the national flag be lowered to one-quarter of the flagpole.

As is the custom, the funeral took place the following day. Many family members, including the Sultan and the Queen, attended at Balai Penghadapan Bukit Kayangan on Wednesday.

Also in attendance were Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and his wife; Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah binti Adam; Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Also present were the Sultan’s daughters, Princess Hajah Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah; Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah and Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah.

The late Princess received several state decorations and honorary medals during her lifetime, such as the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati (D.K.), Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa Darjah Kedua (D.S.L.J.) and Pingat Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan (P.H.B.S.).

She and her husband had ten children together.
