The Princess of Orange looked lovely at her first state banquet this week, but it wasn’t the first time she had donned a tiara.
The heir to the Dutch throne revealed her first tiara moment in her biography book, Amalia, for her 18th birthday. The Princess shared an image from her childhood with Claudia de Breij, who penned her first official biography.
In the image, eight-year-old Princess Amalia is seen wearing the Mellerio Ruby Parure Tiara in October 2012 ahead of her parents’ trip to Luxembourg for the wedding of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume to the now Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie.
In de Breij’s book, Amalia revealed: “I love tiaras. Show me a tiara, and I’ll know where it came from. I can recognise all the tiaras of Europe. I used to put them on from my mother. Then there would be one on her make-up table and I would have it directly on my head.”
The Princess of Orange has had several opportunities to try the tiaras in the Dutch royal vault since turning 18. Her first tiara moment came in Norway for the 18th birthday celebrations of Princess Ingrid Alexandra in 2022. On that occasion, she chose to officially debut in the Dutch Star Tiara – the same tiara her mother, Queen Maxima, wore when she wed King Willem-Alexander.
She also donned a tiara at the 18th birthday celebrations in Denmark for Crown Prince Christian in 2023. For that celebration, she wore Queen Emma’s Sapphire Necklace Tiara.
Before the state banquet for the Spanish state visit, the last time we’d seen Amalia in a tiara was for the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan to Princess Rajwa in June 2023 and the wedding of Prince Ferdinand zu Schwarzenberg and Marie Friling in July 2023. On all occasions, she wore the Ruby Peacock Tiara.
