King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands have sent a message after a Dutch tour bus crashed in Switzerland.
They wrote, “Our thoughts are with all those affected by the bus accident in Graubünden, Switzerland, and with their families in the Netherlands. Our hearts go out to the bereaved, to everyone currently living in fear for the fate of loved ones, and to the injured. We feel united with you in this great tragedy. – King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima”
The bus, belonging to the travel agency OAD, was involved in an accident yesterday afternoon. The accident happened between Zernez and Susch in eastern Switzerland. The bus carried 49 people, including the bus driver. The Swiss police assume that most or all of the passengers are Dutch.
While it has been confirmed that people have died in the accident, it is still unclear how many. Several people have been transported to hospital.
At the moment it appears to have been a one-sided accident. At the time, only one lane was open due to roadworks.
The Dutch ambassador to Switzerland, Karin Mössenlechner, is on her way to the scene.
Throughout the night, bodies were being recovered, and earlier this morning, the vehicle was recovered.
