King Charles has arrived in Guyana on a state visit, invited by the President of Guyana and at the request of the British Government, to celebrate 60 years of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Up he goes and down he comes. King Charles departed the Bahamas this morning and arrived in Guyana this afternoon. The King received a warm diplomatic welcome, marking the start of a state visit celebrating the two countries’ bilateral ties.

King Charles touched down at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana. The Guyanese President invited the state visit at the request of the British government. Upon arrival, King Charles was greeted by the President of Guyana, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali; Head of Protocol, Ambassador Ivan Evelyn; and British High Commissioner, Joseph Fisher, alongside UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, as well as senior Guyanese politicians and officials.

After introductions, the King and the President stepped onto a dais where the Band of the Guyana Defence Force performed the British and Guyanese National Anthems, before His Majesty inspected a Guard of Honour, formed of members of the Guyana Defence Force.

The King will continue on to further engagements in Georgetown.
