King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit hosted royalty and world leaders at a reception in the Royal Palace yesterday after King Harald’s funeral.
The Norwegian Royal Family hosted world leaders after the funeral ceremonies in Oslo yesterday. King Haakon was joined by Crown Prince Ingrid Alexandra and Queen Sonja in receiving foreign guests.
The state reception took place after the King and Queen, along with the royal family, appeared on the balcony to acknowledge the crowds that flocked to Palace Square. A rapturous cheer was heard as Queen Sonja stepped out onto the historic balcony for the first time since the death of King Harald.

King Harald was laid to rest in a joint sarcophagus at the Royal Mausoleum of Akershus Fortress. His remains join those of the late King Haakon VII, Queen Maud, King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha. King Harald’s sarcophagus, which was designed by Snøhetta, will be revealed in about a week.
