Thai King and Queen head to Vietnam

King Rama X and Queen Suthida will pay a state visit to Vietnam next week to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 

King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) and Queen Suthida will pay a state visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the invitation of the President of the Socialist Republic, His Excellency Tô Lâm. The visit is scheduled for 14 to 16 September 2026. This state visit will foster closer ties of friendship and strengthen relations between Thailand and Vietnam as both celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.

According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the state visit, Their Majesties will lay wreaths at the Bac Son Martyrs’ Monument and at the Mausoleum of former President Ho Chi Minh. The King and Queen will then attend the official welcoming ceremony and meet with His Excellency the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and his spouse.

Their Majesties will also grant audiences to His Excellency Mr Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and His Excellency Mr Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

On the same day, President-General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse will host a state banquet in honour of Their Majesties at Tonkin Palace, after which they will proceed to Ngoc Son Temple to view cultural performances.

On the last day of the visit, the King and Queen will visit the Quan Su Pagoda, which is the Headquarters of the Executive Council of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha, and the Thai Cultural Centre at Hanoi University.
