King Felipe of Spain has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Alcalá.

The King’s honour was approved by the Spanish Senate in October 2024 in recognition of his close ties to the institution and commitment to human rights.

King Felipe, in his special ceremony attire, was presented with his honorary doctorate in Madrid at the University of Alcalá by the Magnificent Rector, José Vicente Saz.

Queen Letizia sat in the front row as the King entered the arena in a procession alongside his godfather, Miguel Rodríguez, and the Magnificent Rector.

After a speech and musical performance, Vicente Saz read the vows that the King then recited. He was then invested with the honorary doctorate.

The King then said a few words, closing with what people can offer to the world, saying, “The best that we can offer the world as a society continues to flow: our future.”
