King Charles has invited US President Donald Trump on a historic state visit to the United Kingdom.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered a letter from the King to Trump in the Oval Office at the White House, where the King invited Trump on his second state visit to the United Kingdom.
The President immediately accepted the invitation, remarking: “The answer is yes, on behalf our wonderful First Lady Melania and myself, the answer is yes, and we look forward to being there and honouring the King and honoring really your country. Your country is a fantastic country.”

Trump showed the letter from Charles to the press, with Starmer saying: “This is really special. This has never happened before. This is unprecedented.”
He then continued: “I think that just symbolises the strength of the relationship between us. This is a very special letter. I think the last state visit was a tremendous success. His Majesty the King wants to make this even better than that.”

Starmer said he was going to “happily” take Trump’s acceptance back to King Charles.
The President also took time to praise the UK’s King, calling him a “wonderful man.” He also told the Prime Minister that he “looks forward to being there and honouring the King, honouring the country.”
This is the first time a US president will undertake a second state visit to the UK.
Trump was invited by the late Queen Elizabeth II on a state visit during his first term in office. He was re-elected in November 2024 and inaugurated for a second time on January 20, 2025. He is only the second US president to serve non-consecutive terms in office.
