King Felipe VI of Spain has begun his official visit to Jordan.

Previously, both King Felipe and Queen Letizia were to visit Jordan, but due to the ongoing war between Israel and the terrorist organisations Hamas and Hezbollah, the Queen will no longer make the trip.

King Felipe was received at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman with a Cordon of Honour. He was greeted by Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, the Spanish ambassador to Jordan, Miguel de Lucas, and the Jordanian ambassador to Spain, Raghad Al Saqqa.

He then travelled to the Spanish Embassy in Jordan for a reception with the Spanish community in Jordan. He made a short speech, saying, “In all my trips abroad, the meeting with the community is one of the most emotional moments. (…) In today’s meeting, the feeling is even greater due to the difficult situation that the region is going through. I want to convey to you, in this time of great concern for everyone, the embrace and closeness of your compatriots.”

On his second and final day in Jordan, King Felipe will visit Baqa’aa, the refugee camp of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
