King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway have attended a memorial service for the victims of the 7 October attack on Israel.
The King and Crown Prince attended the commemoration of the first anniversary at the Mosaic Faith Community in Oslo.
Chief Rabbi Michael Melchior and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre both made speeches at the synagogue with the latter remarking about the uptick in racist harassment and threats: “We are also worried about how the mood and the change of words in Norway have become harsher, more polarized because this hits us here, in our everyday life. Prejudice, images of the enemy – here in our own country, which we want to be open and inclusive. We see that harassment, even threats, against institutions, homes and people is increasing. Jew used as a slur. Anti-Semitism – and Muslim hostility.”

His Majesty also released a statement on the anniversary regarding the situation in the Middle East: “The suffering resulting from terror and war in the Middle East touches and worries us. Here at home, everyone who has family and friends in Israel, Palestine and Lebanon is hit hard.
“We must stand together so that individuals and communities feel safe in Norway. No one should have to experience hatred, incitement and threats as a result of conflicts elsewhere in the world. It is something each of us can contribute to.”
King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon also toured an exhibit outside the synagogue, which shows images from the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas.
