Royals send congratulations to Pope Leo XIV

Royals from across the globe have expressed their congratulations to the American Robert Prevost, who was elected as Pope Leo XIV.

Catholic monarchs King Felipe of Spain, Prince Albert II of Monaco, and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg have sent messages to Pope Leo.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia wrote on X: “We congratulate Cardinal Prevost on his election as the new pontiff, Pope Leo XIV. His call for peace inspires us, encourages us, and reflects the deep desire and sentiment of the Spanish people.”

Prince Albert of Monaco released a statement on Facebook: “On the occasion of the ascension of His Holiness to the Pontifical Throne, my family and I assure Him of our fervent prayers for the greatness of His Pontificate and please accept our respectful congratulations.

“Together with the population of the Principality, we form a very deferred wish that the accomplishment of this eminent and heavy spiritual mission of a universal scope will be marked with many satisfactions. I ask Your Holiness to approve the respectful homage of my deep and filial attachment.”

Grand Duke Henri said: “Most Holy Father, The Grand Duchess and I would like to extend our warmest congratulations on the occasion of your election to the Pontificate Sovereign. Your becoming the head of the Catholic Church represents a moment of hope for millions of faithful around the world. I form the wish that your pontificate will be a bearer of peace, dialogue between the peoples and universal fraternity.

“Be assured, Most Holy Father, of the will of the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg to continue links of friendship and cooperation with the Holy See.”
Royals from the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the President of the UAE, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President of the UAE, each wrote messages on X.
The President wrote: “I extend my sincere best wishes to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his appointment as head of the Catholic Church and wish him success in continuing to promote mutual understanding, peace, and harmony throughout the world.”
The Vice President said: “We extend our congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his election. We in the UAE deeply appreciate the Vatican’s role in promoting dialogue and peace among nations and faiths, and we look forward to working together with His Holiness to advance a global message of coexistence, tolerance and shared humanity.”
King Charles of the United Kingdom and King Abdullah of Jordan have sent private messages to the Pope.
