All flags at royal palaces in Sweden will fly at half-mast today.
The decision was made by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden following the school shooting in Örebro yesterday. The flags at the Royal Palace, Drottningholm Palace, Haga Palace, Rosersberg Palace, Ulriksdal Palace, Gripsholm Palace, Strömsholm Palace, Tullgarn Palace, and Rosendal Palace will be flown at half-mast.
The King also sent his condolences earlier and will visit the area with the Queen today.
The King said: “It is with sadness and dismay that my family and I have received the information about the terrible atrocity in Örebro.
“We send our condolences tonight to the families and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts at this time also go to the injured and their relatives, as well as to all those affected.
“My family and I would like to express our great appreciation for the police, rescue and medical personnel who worked intensively to save and protect human lives on this dark day.”
Swedish media has reported that King Carl Gustaf will visit Örebro to honour the victims and that Crown Princess Victoria may join him. The Swedish Royal Court has not confirmed the report.
A 35-year-old man opened fire on the school on the afternoon of 4 February.
Police have said the male perpetrator acted alone and killed himself after attacking those at the school. The shooting is still being investigated, but it is not thought to be terrorist-related. It is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history.
