The celebrations were also joined by people who have been or are still active in the organisation, as well as other partners. They were welcomed by Oslo Mayor Anne Lindboe.
Secretary General Caroline Solem gave a speech of thanks in which she said, “Dyslexia, a word that is both difficult to say and write. A word that means more now than it did 50 years ago. Even though we still haven’t gotten where we want to be – there are still children who remain undetected, young people who don’t get the right help, and adults who don’t feel seen – the word dyslexia is a word that most people have heard of and now know what it is. It means something. Dyscalculia and DLD have not yet been given the same status.”
“Students with reading and writing difficulties, math difficulties and language difficulties are seen to a greater extent than before, and there is an increasing focus on this also in the workplace. Dyslexia Norway is not so self-centred that we think this is only thanks to us, but we are also not so modest that we do not take some credit for having had something to do with this. It is talked about louder, more and more often than before”, she added.
