Crown Princess Victoria visits Bangladesh with UNDP

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden has visited Bangladesh with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

She was joined by the Minister of State Johan Forssell and representatives from UNDP. The Crown Princess is a goodwill ambassador for UNDP.

She began her visit in the capital, Dhaka, for an event on inclusive digital development. Over the last few years, local digital centres have been founded to assist locals with public services. She then met with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina and attended a dinner.

On the second day, Crown Princess Victoria made a field visit to Khulna, where she took part in several projects. She visited a drinking water facility where rainwater is collected through a purification system.

After visiting Khulna, Crown Princess Victoria inaugurated a Smart Service Point of Post Office, the first post office to be digitised. She then travelled to Jelepara Dakshin, where she visited a project aiming to improve access to clean water. At the end of the day, she visited the Asian University for Women (AUW).

On the third and final day, the Crown Princess began with a breakfast with financial institutions. She then attended an event which focused on the role of private businesses in a green transition.

In the afternoon, she visited the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka, where she was given a tour and met with employees. She visited the Wateraid project, of which she had been a patron since 2011. She then headed to the UNDP office in Dhaka, where she met with the staff.

The visit ended with a reception arranged by the UNDP and the Swedish Embassy. The Crown Princess gave a speech, saying, “My hope is that our visit has further strengthened Sweden’s and Bangladesh’s joint effort in accelerating the work on the Sustainable Development Goals.”
