Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden have spent the past week in California to promote Swedish interests and to develop relationships with Californian innovations and technologies.

The official visit began on Monday, 19 February in San Francisco where the couple visited the non-profit Marine Mammal Center to see how they help rehabilitate animals and protect the ocean. After visiting the Marine Mammal Center, Victoria and Daniel were photographed in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and took a hike on Rodeo Beach Coastal Trailhead.

They later travelled to the Scandinavian School and Culture Center and were seen playing games like Connect 4 with the children. That evening they attended a reception for Swedes who live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

On the following day, Their Royal Highnesses met California Governor Gavin Newsom in Sacramento alongside Sweden’s Minister of State for a bilateral meeting. An agreement between California and Sweden on the development of green energy was also signed.

Afterwards, Victoria and Daniel were joined by Sweden’s MP Johan Forssell at the Consulate General’s new office in San Francisco for a tour and meeting with staff. They then received a briefing on driverless cars and visited Open AI to learn more about artificial intelligence developments. The couple even got in the backseat of a driverless car for a short ride. They also met San Francisco Mayor London Breed at City Hall and opened the new Swedish Consulate General during a ceremony at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

On Wednesday, 21 February, the Crown Princess and Prince were in Palo Alto to visit Nvidia, Intel and Google for more information on artificial intelligence. Later they travelled to Stanford University to learn more about the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence and met Swedish students studying at the famous university.

Victoria and Daniel concluded their trip to the western United States on 22 February in Palo Alto with a seminar at the Nordic Innovation House focusing on cooperation between Sweden and the US state. They then joined the Swedish business delegation at the Green Transition Summit organised by Business Sweden.
